๐Ÿ”” Understanding Client Hub Notifications (Accountant Users)

Client Hub uses multiple indicators to help you track activity across client workspaces.

These indicators serve different purposes and do not all clear in the same way. Understanding how each one works will help prevent confusion and ensure nothing is missed.

๐ŸŸฆ Message Indicators (Conversations Only)

Blue conversation bubble (next to a client name)

What it means

There are unread messages or conversation activity for that client.

What clears it

  • Clicking the blue conversation bubble
  • Entering the client workspace and viewing the conversation

What it does NOT affect

  • Notification bells
  • Notification counts
  • The global notification panel

๐Ÿ“Œ Important: Messages are not notifications. They use a separate system.

๐Ÿ”” Client-Level Notification Bell (Specific Client)

Bell icon next to the client name or in the client header

What it means

There are notifications related to that specific client workspace, such as:

  • Client Task responses
  • File uploads
  • Other tracked client activity

What clears it

  • Entering that clientโ€™s workspace

What does NOT clear it

  • Opening the global notification panel
  • Marking notifications as read from the left sidebar
  • Viewing messages

๐Ÿ“Œ Tip: If this bell is showing, click into the client workspace to clear it.

๐Ÿ”” Global Notification Bell (Left Sidebar)

Bell icon on the far-left sidebar (with pulsing red dot)

What it means

There are unread notifications across all client workspaces.

How it works

  • Opening the panel does not automatically mark notifications as read
  • This ensures important activity is not dismissed accidentally

What clears it

  • Clicking Mark as Read at the top of the notification list

What it does NOT clear

  • Blue conversation bubbles
  • Client-level notification bells
  • Client workspace indicators

๐Ÿ“Œ Important: Clearing the global bell only clears items in that panel.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Notifications vs Read Receipts

Notifications and read receipts serve different purposes:

  • Notifications alert you when new activity occurs (tasks, uploads, updates)
  • Read receipts (Seen by / Viewed by) show who has opened or viewed a message

Viewing a message may clear message indicators and prevent additional notifications, but read receipts are displayed separately within the conversation.

๐Ÿง  Why This Can Feel Confusing (and What to Remember)

There are three separate indicators, and no single action clears all of them:

Indicator Clears When Youโ€ฆ
Blue conversation bubble View the message / enter workspace
Client-level bell Enter the client workspace
Global bell (left sidebar) Manually mark notifications as read

Because of this, itโ€™s possible to:

  • Clear messages but still see notification bells
  • Clear global notifications but still need to enter a client workspace
  • See indicators that feel โ€œalready handledโ€ but havenโ€™t been cleared in that system yet

This behavior is expected and helps prevent missed activity, even though it may feel repetitive at first.

๐Ÿงญ Managing Notification Volume

You can control which client workspaces generate notifications:

  • Click your profile photo (bottom-left)
  • Select Notification Settings
  • Follow or unfollow specific client workspaces

Unfollowing a workspace stops notifications for general client activity (messages, tasks, uploads), but direct actions involving you (such as job assignments or @mentions) will still notify you.

โœ… Key Takeaway

If you see an indicator:

  • Message bubble? โ†’ Open the conversation
  • Client bell? โ†’ Enter the client workspace
  • Global bell? โ†’ Mark notifications as read manually

Each indicator clears independently.
